It’s hard to imagine it’s been 25 entire years since Street Fighter was introduced to the public. Once maligned as one of the worst video-game movies ever made, it’s now till maligned as one of the worst video-game movies ever made. But don’t let that deter you from seeing it.

After all, there are plenty of terrible video-game movies: The Super Mario Bros, Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, etc. Most of these movies stink because they fail to capture the feeling of playing the game while also failing to tell a decent story to viewers unfamiliar with the game’s canon. The Street Fighter movie, however, does not care about what you think.

Street Fighter: The Movie is not trying to be a good video-game movie or a good movie or a good story or literally anything. It’s a bizarre wreckage, the molten remains of an airplane crash that has ― as if by a miracle of Gold ― turned into the most beautiful sculpture you’ve ever seen.
